Winter Beauty - Williamston

Many people do not like winter. They say it is cold and dreary and ugly. It can be, but it can also be very beautiful. You have to know where to look. Last night, the sky was clear, and the temperature went down to 0°F (-18°C). The conditions were perfect for hoar frost. When the sun rises, it reflects off of the ice crystals. The effect is absolutely amazing! The bare trees look like like they are covered in white leaves. These photos do not do it justice, but at least you can get an idea of how beautiful it can be.

The pictures above show the beauty from a distance. The pictures below get closer to show what is causing the effect. Every surface is covered with tiny ice crystals. There must be millions of ice crystals on each tree.
The ice is there for a short time in the morning until the sun melts it away.
