2014 Spring Break Highway 61 in Arkansas
It is spring break for the schools in Michigan. Sarah and I headed down to Memphis for the week. On the way, we decided to get off the interstate and take Highway 61 through Osceola, Arkansas. Outside of Osceola, our first stop was in Wilson. It was a nice little town, but the most interesting part was the abandoned building on the other side of the railroad tracks.
Continuing on from Wilson, we went through Bassett. Just outside of Bassett, I spotted a historic marker that said it was the site of a POW Camp during World War II. We stopped to take a look. The only thing there now is the historic marker and the concrete columns at the entrances to the camps.
Behind the site of the camp stood an abandoned farmhouse and a pump house. It was a pretty cool looking house. We walked around and took some photos, but we did not go in.
